THE HIGHLANDER PLUS.
We have embarked on the Highlander Plus breeding program with the aim of breeding a sheep that suits producers who prefer to have dual income streams from meat and wool rather than the specialist lamb production of the Highlander.
It is clear from historic wool prices and the use-cases for the wool that to be consistently worth good money the wool has to be below 26 micron. We are confident that we will be able to breed a 23-micron animal that weans its bodyweight in lambs each year, doesn’t require mulesing, has sound feet and is able to lay down fat when times are good and use these resources when required.
The ultimate sheep will take a while to evolve, but we welcome producers to join us on the journey and use the rams as they evolve and provide feedback as we go.
